Mr. Joe Proctor while attending the Reno Air Races contacted the Racer Team with the following comments:

"I was a line boy at Santa Ana in 1935 when Hughes had The Racer there. I worked for Pacific Airmotive for a fellow named Ross Hadley. His parents owned Hadley Stationary. My father, Virgil Proctor, was chief electrician for United, and got me the job after school hours. That is where I met Howard Hughes. I even helped him push the H-1 around once. Howard didn't bring the airplane outside very often. When he did there would be scores of Japanese tourists taking pictures of the airplane. They took pictures of everything on the ramp. At the time I was 15 years old. A lot of people wanted to sit in the airplane, and it was the standing joke that Howard would let you - for a pack of cigarettes."

The Racer Team would like to thank Joe for his recollections and for the photos of the original H-1 Racer.
