Alfred Owles (1894 - 1978), born in the United Kingdom, was a noted painter of aircraft. He flew as an aerial photographer with the British, Royal Air Force during World War I. It was here that he saw first-hand the airplanes of that era in actual combat which he so vividly expressed in his paintings.

These beautiful watercolor paintings are original and are signed by Owles. We acquired these works from Peter Palmer, nephew of H-1 designer Richard Palmer. Peter inherited the paintings from his uncle. We presume that they were originally commissioned by Richard Palmer. According to Peter, " I'm not sure when these two paintings were painted, but I remember them in my uncles home when I was a child in the late 1940's."

Our sincere thanks goes to out to Peter for allowing us to acquire these works. They are currently being displayed in our main hangar, near the H-1 reproduction.
