First Flight of Hughes H-1B Racer Reproduction
At approximately 7:15 AM, July 9, 2002, the Wright built Hughes H-1B, serial #2 became airborne for the first time. The dream of one man became a reality because of the hard work, dedication and perseverance of a talented team of individuals.
In 1935 Howard Hughes showed the world what could be accomplished, when one had the will to achieve. He built the first H-1, and in so doing showed the world how aircraft should be built. Watching the Wright built Hughes H-1B take to the air is proof to many of us that hard work, dedication, and the spirit of achievement are still a part of what makes America great.
There are yet more achievements to be made, goals to be met, and moments to savor. For many of us though, this will be the moment most savored, and best remembered.

July 9, 2002. First moments airborne. Pilot/Owner Jim Wright at the controls.
Many people had asked to be present at the first flight. There where many options considered and thought about. In the end however, project owners Jim and Betty Wright decided to give this moment exclusively to those who had worked so hard to make it happen. A truly special gift to a special team that made the dream happen.
