I don't know anything about design connections between H-1 and Zero. But I'm sure that it was the "dream plane" of those years (like say F22 today) and infuenced many designs, even if not in a direct manner.
One such design would be IAR-80, another long time nemesis of USAAF (although not that well known as Zero is). It was an early war radial with performance close to those of A6M2 (except range). It was powered by 1050hp Gnome Rhone 14 radial and there were plans to upgrade it with a 1600hp heavily modified version of Gnome Rhone powerplant (taken in '44 from Me 323 Giant). In this variant will have had perfomance similar to Lavochkin La-7.
