Thank you for your comments. We were in complete agreement with your conclusions of the H-1 vs. Zero before we started this project. After thousands of hours of research our opinion has changed.
Granted, the H-1 is 80 mph faster than the Zero and posseses twice its range. However the H-1 could not be reasonably mass produced in its original form. Due to the no-compromise-in-performance, complexity, and no-matter-what-the-cost, criteria set forth by Hughes, the H-1 was not a candidate for mass production.
At our last count there are over 100 identical or near identical concepts employed in both the H-1 and the Zero. Some are only detectable with access to the interior of the H-1.
We are including a link to some image files, both side_by_side and top view, that overlay the H-1 and the Zero. We are currently also working on a book that may help shed some light on this forgotten piece of aviation history.
