I am 76, remember the flight of the H-1, kept scrapbooks on the planes of the Golden Age. I am sure I saw a photo of a variant of the H-1 in which there was no fairing from behind the cockpit to the rudder post, and the canopy could be cranked down into the fuselage, leaving a smooth line from behind the cowling to the tail. I am certain that I saw this, but have always wondered how Hughes could see (assuming my re c0ollection is correct)
