I remember an article(+picture) in the monthly UK magazine 'Royal Air Force Review' circa 1956 which stated that infact the H1 Racer design was sold to the Japanses government in 1937 after it had failed to gain US Army Air Force approval because of a design fault i.e turning left out of a dive.If this was true I imagine Hughes was had gone to extreem lengths to keep such information quiet.
